childhood memories!

we don’t usually re-post from other blogs, but today we felt very proud that one of our favorite blogs has collaborated with one of our “childhood” favorite products, from Greece!

Joanna, the talented owner of “a cup of Jo”, wrote a few days about a wonderful excursion she had with her boys, in their neighborhood in Brooklyn! & along they brought delicious snack yoghurts from FAGE. FAGE is a greek diary company, particularly famous for their delicious yoghurt, & its products can actually be found in many countries, outside Greece!

enjoy reading Joanna’s post here!

3 Michelin stars in deep snow

who said that you can only find a 3 Michelin star restaurant in New York, London or Paris? I was lucky enough to discover one in Megeve.
chef Emmanuel Renaut is the heart & spirit of Flocons de Sel. charisma, authenticity, attention to the smallest detail & technique lead to the creation of an exquisite menu... if you happen to be in the area, you definitely don't want to miss this "once-in-a-lifetime" experience. & right after your dinner, you will get the chance to visit the kitchen & congratulate the chef!

a slightly different chicken soup

yesterday my husband woke up feeling a little bit under the weather... a small headache, a running nose & a sore throat were all there. i pulled up my sleeves & used all my magic tricks to help him have a quick recovery! orange & pomegranate juice for breakfast, vitamin C tablets, ginger tea with extra lemon & honey & a chicken soup for lunch.

i wasn't sure whether I wanted to cook the more or less traditional greek recipe... like this one:

so, I kept looking for an alternative one at my favourite's Greek TV-chef (Akis Petretzikis) amazing webpage. and, here is what I discovered:

{spicy chicken & cherry tomato soup}

it was so easy to make & so delicious at the same time! needless to say that my mission was accomplished, as my husband feels so much better today!!!

lethargic Sundays

is it just me or do we usually spend January weekends at home? the festive season is over & I feel that we all need some time to stay still & relax... not that many get-togethers, no drinks with friends, no late dinners... just cosy outfits, slippers, sitting comfortable on the sofa, watching series... & why not, trying face masks!

I spent a couple of days at the beginning of December is Seoul & couldn't help but notice the amazing, glowing skin of all the Korean girls around me. what is their secret? face masks!!! apparently, they use one per day, that's why you can easily get them in packages of 20. & they are so affordable!

the january get-together

many of us usually spend January at home, a bit worn out from the festivities of christmas & new year eve’s season. most of us are not in the mood to plan going out, and some actually cannot even afford it.

but we in excitemelove {who love to celebrate all the big and small every~day~moments} would suggest that maybe january is actually the best month to plan some good get-togethers, just in a different way:

january is for good, honest & cozy get-togethers, with really good friends, whom most likely you did not see during december, cause they had family and other friends’ gatherings to attend.

january is also a good time, because the buzz of the festivities is now over, so you can really reflect on the year that passed, and look ahead on the months that are coming; what better than going through such an exercise while sharing it with your best friends.

lastly, some feel that january is dark, cold (if you live in northern hemisphere) and slightly depressing. even more importantly then, to invite some friends over and warm your houses and your hearts!

and we have the perfect idea for such gathering: a soup soiree!

imagine some delicious, warm soups are served {so everyone can try different flavors} accompanied with fresh baked bread and of course your favorite wines, white, rose, red!

all the different soup flavors will awake different senses, trigger different emotions, inspired different ideas and definitely different topics of discussion will arise!

and keep in mind, soups are really easy, fast and economical to be made, and you can even follow the northern european model, where you all share and everyone brings a different soup! what about making a challenge and assigning different colors to each one of you?

well, it is Friday tomorrow… just saying….

stay warm!

for our beloved friends who live in the usa and are are trying to stay warm {in any possible way}, we would like to suggest a very scandinavian breakfast dish, which can be eaten warm, it will make you feel full of energy and it is absolutely delicious!

oatmeal!

it is so simple to make, and if you get creative enough you can actually have a completely different experience every morning! our favourite version is simply prepare the oatmeal, add a small knob of butter, chopped bananas, a little bit of fresh milk to make the porridge less sticky {but not too much cause then the porridge will get cold} and a bit of ground cinnamon on top!

voilĂ ! enjoy immediately, as long as it is still warm!

we also found some other heavenly variations:

mac 'n' cheese

yesterday i was craving for mac 'n' cheese...

{Andrew Scrivani for The New York Times, source: cooking.nytimes.com}

yep, it was one of these days where my stomach was desperately asking for some comfort food to go through the day. i looked in vain for restaurants nearby to accommodate my "urgent" desire (i also need to make a mental note of this gap in Zurich's culinary map.... it's not the only gap, but this is another huge topic...). as I had to improvise (a.k.a. cook something myself), i googled & ended up with not one, but three amazing recipes. have a look!

a. a killer mac 'n'cheese, as Jamie names it; Jamie needs no introduction, he is the one and only Jamie Oliver.

b. mac and cheese greek style by the not-just-handsome Greek chef Akis Petretzikis.

c. grown-up mac and cheese with truffle oil; i discovered this one at i am a food blog; the recipe is by Heston Blumenthal, the famous chef behind The Fat Duck, a 3-Michelin star restaurant and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal.

for more info (all the ingredients you need & a step-by-step execution of the recipe as found in its original source), just click on the recipe's name.
& if you consider yourself a "close-to-being-professional" chef, why don't you also try these interesting combinations that i found at den.bigleo.com.

i went for Jamie's recipe, as I had almost all the ingredients at home. however, i feel so bad for not taking some time to take a photo before devouring my dish...
enjoy cooking & bon appetit!

ps: here is a great idea to freshen you up!

use any kind of berries you like, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, you name it, add a bit of sugar to your like and pour a bit of milk ! blend the mix for a couple of minutes and VoilĂ !
